Sanju Samson Breaks Rohit Sharma’s T20I Record with Explosive Century in Hyderabad

Sanju Samson etched his name into cricket history with a powerful performance in the third T20I of the series against Bangladesh. In an extraordinary display of batting at Hyderabad on Saturday, the wicketkeeper-batter smashed 111 runs off just 47 balls, leading India to a massive total of 297/6 in their 20 overs. Later, the Indian bowlers held Bangladesh to 164/7, clinching the series 3-0.

Samson’s fiery century, achieved in just 40 balls, made him the second-fastest Indian to reach a T20I hundred, only behind Rohit Sharma, who set the record with a century in 35 balls. Samson’s knock didn’t just stop there—he also registered the fastest fifty by an Indian in T20Is against Bangladesh, reaching the milestone in just 22 balls, surpassing Rohit’s previous record of 23 balls set in 2019.

Samson Becomes First Indian Wicketkeeper to Score a T20I Century

Apart from breaking records, Samson became the first Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a century in T20 internationals. This remarkable achievement, being his first T20I ton, is expected to solidify his place as a first-choice wicketkeeper-batter for India.

In his 33 T20I matches, spanning 29 innings, Samson has accumulated 594 runs with an average of 22.84. His tally now includes a century and two fifties, showcasing his growing stature in the team.

Samson Reflects on His Milestone Performance

During the post-match presentation, Samson shared his thoughts on the achievement. “The dressing room was buzzing with happiness. I am really happy, and the team is happy that I performed well. It’s tough sometimes because you know what you’re capable of, and when it doesn’t come out, it can get frustrating.”

He continued, “I’ve experienced a lot of ups and downs, and those failures have taught me how to manage pressure. I keep telling myself to focus on the process, believe in my training, and the results will come. Playing for your country brings pressure, but I always want to show what I can do on the field.”
